The main thoroughfare is Wellington Street which has a gorgeous display of mature Poinciana trees.

Next door are the suburbs of Cleveland, Wellington Point and Alexandra Hills, while beautiful Moreton Bay makes up the eastern boundary.

Housing options range from secure villas and townhouses to single family homes near the water’s edge.  For those wanting to build their dream home, a small number of desirable blocks are available.

Ormiston is situated approximately halfway between the Brisbane and the Gold Coast.  It’s only half an hour by train to the city via the Cleveland railway line, making it popular with commuters.

Ormiston’s Claim to Fame

Named after a village in Scotland, Ormiston is recognised as the birth-place of the Australian sugar industry. Back in the 1850s, Scottish aristocrat Captain Louis Hope began farming sugar cane in the rich, red soil.

It proved to be a prosperous venture and within a decade, he commenced building the heritage-listed Ormiston House.  The historic house on Wellington Street is a classic example of colonial architecture and is open to the public on selected Sunday afternoons throughout the year.

The cane fields have now been replaced by quiet streets with quality residential homes.

Convenient, Relaxed Lifestyle

Ormiston is close to amenities like shops and schools.

The local shopping centre is handy for day to day needs, and dining options nearby include takeaways, cafes, and restaurants.

There are two schools that families can choose between – Ormiston State Primary School and the popular Ormiston College. It is also in the catchment for two state high schools - Cleveland and Wellington Point.

Raby Bay Harbour with its waterfront eateries and bars is just  a few minutes’ drive away.

Ormiston also boasts an impressive 27 parks, many with flat pathways for walking or cycling. There’s plenty of  open space and bushland areas to explore, and nature lovers might be lucky enough to spot a koala or other wildlife.
